His current objective is to help old friends to come to the Python 3 wonderland and to make new friends. He has to build trust in his will and ability to stay in the Python 3 wonderland.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.gocept.com\/2018\/04\/03\/a-heartily-welcome-for-zope-in-the-python-3-wonderland\/\">Zope-4-Welcome sprint<\/a>\u00a0last week was a great opportunity to work towards the final permission for Earl Zope. We were a group of 15 developers from different companies and backgrounds building applications on Zope in various ways.<\/p>\n<p>We accomplished the following goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are some old friends of Earl Zope. He thought that he no longer needs them in the Python 3 wonderland but other applications built on Zope need them, so they were pushed towards the new land:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zopefoundation\/Products.SiteErrorLog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Products.SiteErrorLog<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zopefoundation\/Products.TemporaryFolder\/pull\/4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Products.TemporaryFolder<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zopefoundation\/Products.Sessions\/pulls\">Products.Sessions<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Knight <a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/RestrictedPython\/4.0b4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RestrictedPython<\/a>\u00a0got some love and a new beta release.<\/li>\n<li>Earl Zope could help an old friend (a custom Zope 2.13 application) to get prepared to move to the new land.<\/li>\n<li>Duchess CMFCore got a beta permission for the Python 3 wonderland including her beloved siblings:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/Products.CMFCore\/2.4.0b4\/#b4-2018-05-17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Products.CMFCore 2.4.0b4<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/Products.GenericSetup\/2.0b1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Products.GenericSetup 2.0b1<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/Products.PluggableAuthService\/2.0b1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Products.PluggableAuthService 2.0b1<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/Products.PluginRegistry\/1.6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Products.PluginRegistry 1.6<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/Products.MailHost\/4.1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Products.MailHost 4.1<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Prince Plone is not yet ready to live in the Python 3 wonderland but he is already a welcome guest. It is only a matter of time before he will get an alpha permission:\n<ul>\n<li>The instance starts and many actions in the UI work pretty well.<\/li>\n<li>The test story was brought some steps further so it is possible to start testing Plone under Python 3.<\/li>\n<li>Details are described in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.starzel.de\/blog\/porting-plone-to-python-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Blog post of Philip Bauer<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The migration of a toy <code>Data.fs<\/code> was tested and successfully completed. (Details will follow in another blog post.) The Migration took the following steps:\n<ul>\n<li>from Zope 2.13 on Python 2.7<\/li>\n<li>via Zope 4 on Python 2.7<\/li>\n<li>to Zope 4 on Python 3.6<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The ZMI of Earl Zope got a facelift (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zopefoundation\/Zope\/pull\/249\">Zope#249)<\/a>\u00a0which is not complete yet but looks promising.<\/li>\n<li>And last but not least Earl Zope himself got the 5th extension of his beta permission:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/Zope\/4.0b5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zope 4.0b5<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Earl Zope says a hearty thank you to all who where involved in this sprint in Halle or remote by coding or providing the resources and time to code.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome in the Python 3 wonderland!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earl Zope already got the beta permission to stay in the Python 3 wonderland some months ago.
