We hope you enjoyed the time since the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.gocept.com\/2017\/04\/26\/last-call-for-take-off-to-the-python-3-wonderland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last call for take off to the Python 3 wonderland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We already achieved some things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Zope 4 no longer depends on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/sourcecodegen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sourcecodegen<\/a>\u00a0which was one of Zope&#8217;s dependencies <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.gocept.com\/2017\/02\/21\/zope-at-the-turnpike-of-the-python-3-wonderland\/\">Earl Zope II<\/a>\u00a0had to leave behind for the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.gocept.com\/2016\/09\/05\/zope-in-the-python-3-wonderland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Python 3 wonderland<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zopefoundation\/RestrictedPython\/tree\/Python3_update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RestrictedPython<\/a>\u00a0can be used in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zopefoundation\/AccessControl\/pull\/21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AccessControl<\/a>\u00a0and already runs with legacy Python there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We discussed the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.pytest.org\/en\/latest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pytest<\/a>\u00a0as test framework and test runner for the Zope projects?\n<ul>\n<li>We decided against this suggestion as it is to much hassle for a too little gain.<\/li>\n<li>Using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.python.org\/pypi\/zope.testrunner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">zope.testrunner<\/a>\u00a0is not too different from stdlib&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.python.org\/3.6\/library\/unittest.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unittest<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.python.org\/pypi\/zope.testrunner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">zope.testrunner<\/a>\u00a0it has the really helpful\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.python.org\/pypi\/zope.testrunner\/4.6.0#layers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">layers<\/a>\u00a0feature which is heavily used in Zope and especially Plone. There is no equivalent in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.pytest.org\/en\/latest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pytest<\/a>\u00a0for this concept. This would require to rewrite the whole test infrastructure or use a tool like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/gocept.pytestlayer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">gocept.pytestlayer<\/a>\u00a0which coverts layers into purest fixtures \u2013 but has its own problems doing this.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Improve the situation of continuous integration for the Zope packages:\n<ul>\n<li>Sometimes tests of a package break because a dependency has changed its behaviour. This does\u00a0not get noticed until someone makes a change to the package which triggers Travis-CI. It is sometimes really hard to find out which change in which package caused the test failures when the tests are only run at code changes. (Current example:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/zopefoundation\/zope.testbrowser\/issues\/30\">zope.testbrowser<\/a>\u00a0which broke because of a change in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pypi.org\/project\/WebTest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WebTest<\/a>.)<\/li>\n<li>Hanno activated\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.travis-ci.com\/user\/cron-jobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cron jobs Travis-CI beta feature<\/a>\u00a0for most of the Zope related packages. (This currently requires clicking in the Travis-CI UI and still has to be done for most of the ZTK packages.) Currently it is not clear what happens if such a cron job fails.<\/li>\n<li>The Jenkins of the Plone Foundation is also able to test the Zope packages: it could be configured to run them on a regular basis.<\/li>\n<li>Tres suggests to use <code>bin\/test<\/code>\u00a0instead of <code>python setup.py test<\/code>\u00a0to run the tests as the latter one is no longer liked by the Python Packaging Authority folks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the\u00a0Zope 2 Resurrection Sprint in Halle (Saale), Germany.
